All The Babies

I thought that everyone might enjoy seeing all of the babies that we have at the farm so far! we are still waiting for the rest of the cows to have their babies. and we will be having chicks a few more times this summer.
The chicks are doing great!
The small chicks are the red broiler and cornish cross meat chickens, they are 2 days old. The larger ones are my egg layers. we should have a good assortment of egg layers and a cool looking flock this summer.
The goat babies are growing good. we are raising 6 babies on 2 mommies. Baby goats are so much fun!

The pigs are getting big. We are getting ready to breed 3 of  the pigs. We hope to get babies by August some time.

The first calf of the year! we will be calving 23 cows this year, they are angus hereford cross. this calf is barely a week old.
This is a Texas Dall Sheep. The sheep we have at the farm are unique, they have hair instead of wool. These sheep produce great meat and do'nt require any shearing, they look pretty cool too!

Quick Update

The chicks are here! we have a bunch of new baby chickens that arrived on Saturday. they are all doing very well. if you are interested in trying out our pastured poultry give me a call at 435.830.7821 or shoot me an email at t.bird@aggiemail.usu.edu and I will put your name on our reservatins list. check out the chickens page in this blog for more information.

We also have welcomed 6 new baby goats to the farm! These goats are getting ready for their Summer job at Pioneering Adventures (a group excursion resort at Bear Lake). They will be the guests of honor and main attraction at the petting corral.

I have also been looking for ways to improve the use of this blog, as you know or will find out I want to educate people about all aspects of agriculture, as well as learn as much as I can. I do know alot about agriculture but I want to learn more! I think that the best way to lean is to talk about and share your knowledge. I have decided to begin sharing my thoughts and opinions on agricultural fads and principles. please feel free to email me any suggestions for topics of discussion and reflection.

as always thankyou for all of your support and please remember. If you like what I am doing tell your friends so that I can continue to do it!

The chickens are coming!

I have placed my 2011 order for chickens and turkeys with homestead hatchery in Preston, Idaho
I will have birds availble in May, July, and September.
I will also have some turkeys available for thanksgiving.
please see the chicken page for details concerning poultry or feel free to call 435-830-7821 or email t.bird@aggiemail.usu.edu for more info.

We are also taking orders for farm fresh pork that will be available in July. The price will be $2.50 per pound  for the animal on the rail. The term on the rail means after the animal is harvested and prepared to be stored in the butcher cooler ( hide, head, feet and inedible parts removed ).

You will be responsible for the processing fees of the animal. I will arrange delivery of the animal to the butcher of your choice as well as help you choose the processing that will best suit your needs, plan on an extra .50 per pound for processing and curing.

Never Say Never

I used to say I would never ever "blog". I thought a "blogger" was something you blew from your nose. now I am officially a big green "blogger".

This summer I am raising Chickens, Turkeys, and Pigs and I plan to sell them so I figured this would be the best way to get the word out. please tell everyone you know that I am doing this. I want to eventually own a custom meat shop that will allow me to produce, process, and market locally produced food.

I will post more information throughout the year to keep you posted on the progress of this endeavor as well as let you know when products are available for purchase and how you can order.

Thanks again for your support!
